The
Family Enrichment Toolkit was created
by Michelle Weber. Michelle made an Honor
Plate for her family when her children were
just babies. She thought it would be a fun way
to reward their good behavior at the dinner
table. Michelle began looking specifically for
the good behaviors and choices made by her children
so she could present the Honor Plate
and encourage those very behaviors. She began
to notice a wonderful change in her parenting
style, in the dynamics in the relationship she
had with her girls (who were both in preschool)
as well as their relationship with each other.
Michelle realized she was really onto something
amazing when her youngest was just a toddler.
She played with the thought of sharing her family
traditions with other families so they could
enjoy the same benefits and joy. Michelle was
worried about the time it would take from her
children so she decided not to start anything
until her youngest was at least in Kindergarten.
One evening, Michelle and her youngest daughter
were discussing the idea of creating a business.
Michelle was sharing her concerns about the
potential consequences if she started putting
a lot of her time into starting a business.
Knowing the difference it would make in a lot
of children’s lives, her youngest daughter
told her “You really need to do this for
the world Mommy.” With that kind of family
encouragement and support there was no stopping.
Michelle understands how difficult it is to
be intentional with the crazy schedules of families
today. With a husband who travels, moving into
their 6th home when her youngest was just 3
½ years old, home schooling and 2 wonderful,
very involved daughters; her family has learned
the importance of “stopping to regroup.”
The best time for this is dinner time. Even
with the different schedules, they work very
hard to sit down together for dinner. Michelle
feels very strongly that dinner is the time
to stop and focus on each other and learn about
what’s going on in each other’s
lives. Without even realizing it, the family
was laying the groundwork for yet another very
powerful tool in the Toolkit; Table Thyme.
“The family dinner table is a wonderful
setting for each person to be heard, learn socialization
skills and just learn the joy of being together.
The benefits are endless and have a life-long
impact on your children and family.” says
Michelle. The relationship Michelle and her
husband have with their 2 girls is already a
true testimony to the value of this family’s
traditions.
Michelle has been on a wonderful journey as
she continues to search for ways to be a better
parent. As Michelle started learning more about
Character Education, she became
very excited about what she was already doing
with her children. Then, in her quest to keep
learning, she was lead to the Fruit
of the Spirit, which is the biblical
term that sums up the nine visible attributes
of a true Christian life. The more she learned
about these virtues the more she realized the
importance of focusing her parenting on these
virtues or character traits. The Honor Plate
was evolving into wonderful character education
program
Michelle will gladly tell you that she is certainly
not an expert in parenting or faith, but she
continues to work very hard at both. When talking
to Michelle, you will feel the passion she has
for the Family Enrichment Toolkit
and the wonderful results it has had in her
children and family. Now, she’s feeding
off this passion to provide these tools to other
families. This is not a program that will teach
you how to be a better
parent. This is a program which provides parents
with practical and fun tools that make it easier
to be better parents.
The components of the Toolkit
have been an important part of her family for
almost 10 years. Her children grew up with and
continue to grow every day because of their
family traditions. They are happy to be able
to share them now with you.
